PERSONAL

I was born in Vienna in 1975 and am the mother of five children. The experience I have gained in my own family life flows directly into my understanding of the concerns of parents and families. In my work at the malacht practice, my focus is on providing continuous, professionally sound and collaborative care for patients and their legal guardians.

TRAINING

My professional qualifications are based on a multi-stage academic, clinical and scientific education at national and international centers of excellence:

  • Human medicine: Studied human medicine at the Medical Faculty of the University of Vienna.
  • Specialist training: Specialist training in pediatrics and adolescent medicine, completed at Vienna’s two largest pediatric institutions: the Vienna General Hospital (AKH) and St. Anna Children’s Hospital.
  • Neonatology: In-depth and specialized training in the Department of Neonatology (preterm and newborn medicine).
  • International placement: Clinical specialization during an international placement at the internationally renowned Sheba Medical Center in Israel.
  • Scientific work: Scientific collaboration in the Department of Genetics to deepen the understanding of congenital and rare diseases.

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

My clinical practice includes acute and primary care for children and adolescents in emergency medicine as well as inpatient care:

Clinical work at St. Anna Children’s Hospital:

Dr. Russo-Schlaff gained extensive experience through emergency outpatient shifts at St. Anna Children’s Hospital. This work includes initial diagnostics, triage and acute treatment of pediatric emergencies and acute illnesses. She also continuously contributes her expertise as a locum physician in the hospital outpatient setting.

For me, pediatric medicine means providing holistic care to infants, toddlers, children and adolescents together with their family, and making the best possible decisions for their health as a team. As the eldest sister of many siblings and the mother of five children, I can relate well to the situation of my young patients and their parents.

The desire to become a pediatrician has been with me since my own childhood and has never left me. One possible reason is my personal story: I myself was born prematurely and spent the first weeks of my life in a neonatal unit. This experience shaped and strengthened my interest in pediatrics and adolescent medicine early on.
